Tips for preventing flu

The fight against flu begins at home.

These cleaning tips can help you prevent its spread:

• Wear rubber gloves when cleaning to protect yourself.

• Spray disinfectant on a cloth and wipe all hard surfaces, including toys, doorknobs, appliance handles, keyboards, remote controls, light switches, phones, facial-tissue box covers, tables, chairs and counters.

• Clean toilet handles and seats, faucets and sinks with disinfecting cleaner.

• Wash towels and bedding in hot water and detergent. If someone has been sick, don’t share those items until they have been cleaned thoroughly.

• Change vacuum cleaner bags monthly or more frequently.

• Boil toothbrushes for one minute in water and vinegar, clean them in the dishwasher or buy new brushes.

• Use antibacterial wipes on your keyboard, phone and pens to prevent the spread of germs at work.
